In a move poised to invigorate SMU's basketball program, Andy Enfield has been appointed as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at SMU, announced Director of Athletics Rick Hart today. Enfield, renowned for his coaching success at Florida Gulf Coast and USC, brings a wealth of experience and a track record of achievement to the role.

Enfield first garnered widespread attention in 2013 when he led Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in just his second year as a head coach. This Cinderella run, marked by a captivating style of play dubbed "Dunk City," captured the imagination of basketball fans nationwide. Following this breakthrough, Enfield transitioned to USC, where he continued to leave his mark on collegiate basketball.

"We are thrilled to welcome Andy Enfield as Head Men's Basketball Coach at SMU," said Hart. "His proven ability to build winning teams, both on the court and in the classroom, makes him an ideal fit for our program. We believe he will be instrumental in elevating SMU Men's Basketball to new heights."

Enfield's arrival at SMU comes at a pivotal moment, as the university prepares to join the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in just three months. Departing USC after 11 successful seasons, Enfield leaves behind a legacy of excellence, boasting a remarkable 220-147 record and six postseason appearances.

"We are confident that Coach Enfield's leadership will position us to compete among the nation's elite programs," remarked SMU President R. Gerald Turner.

Enfield, for his part, expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity to lead SMU's basketball program. He cited the university's investments in athletics, coupled with unwavering support from its leadership and passionate fan base, as key factors in his decision to join the Mustang family.

"We are poised to make Mustang fans and the city of Dallas proud," said Enfield. "I am eager to begin this journey and contribute to the continued success of SMU Men's Basketball."

Beyond his coaching accolades, Enfield's career spans various roles within the basketball world, including assistant coaching positions in both the NBA and NCAA. A standout collegiate player himself, Enfield achieved notable success at Johns Hopkins University, where he set a program scoring record and earned academic honors.

Enfield and his wife Amanda are parents to two daughters, Aila and Lily, and a son, Marcum.

SMU will introduce Enfield on Tuesday, April 2, at a 4 p.m. press conference in the Miller Event Center. Media and fans are welcome to attend.
