On June 4, 2025, at approximately 10:53 p.m., Irving Police responded to a disturbance at the Water Ridge Apartments, 4508 W. Pioneer Dr., involving two men armed and pointing firearms at each other over a towing dispute.
Officers detained victim Edgar Mendez and 61-year-old Robert Hernandez Lopez Jr. Mendez told police that Lopez approached him aggressively with a Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum revolver while he was towing Lopez’s vehicle, causing Mendez to draw his own weapon in self-defense.
A witness confirmed Lopez was seen following Mendez around his truck with his hand on the gun, threatening him to put down the tow truck.
Lopez was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Lopez has a prior conviction from 2004 for Unlawful Restraint. Officers found Lopez with the revolver holstered on his body at the scene.
