Irving Man Dies After Confronting Stepson's Friends Over Stolen Gun; Two Teens Arrested

Zayne Ryder Townsend (1 of 2 arrested)

RVING, Texas — Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a shooting in North Irving that left a 40-year-old man dead after he confronted his stepson's friends about a gun reportedly stolen from their home.

Andez Manning, 40, was shot in the head Thursday, October 22, 2026, during a confrontation near Esters Road. He died two days later at Parkland Memorial Hospital, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.

Irving police identified one of the suspects as Zayne Ryder Townsend, 17. The second suspect is a juvenile whose identity has not been released.

Both were arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Confrontation Over Stolen Gun Leads to Deadly Shooting

According to an arrest warrant, Manning and his stepson went to the Devon on Northgate apartments in the 4000 block of West Northgate Drive, near Esters Road, on Thursday to confront two teenagers about a firearm that had reportedly been stolen from their residence.

The two teenagers were described as friends of Manning's stepson.

After the initial encounter at the apartment complex, a second confrontation occurred nearby, just off Esters Road.

During that confrontation, investigators say the two teenagers opened fire on Manning and his stepson while they were inside their vehicle.

Manning returned fire but was struck in the head.

His stepson drove him to a nearby Family Dollar store to seek emergency assistance.

Irving police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the location. Manning was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Manning died from his injuries Saturday, October 24.

Stepson Identifies Two Teenage Suspects

According to the arrest warrant, Manning's stepson identified Townsend and the juvenile as the individuals involved in the shooting.

Irving police arrested both teenagers.

Townsend, who had turned 17 just a few months earlier, was booked into the Irving Jail at approximately 9:47 p.m. on October 22.

He was transferred to the Dallas County Jail the following day, October 23, where he remains in custody.

Townsend's bond was set at $50,000 on the aggravated assault charge.

Murder Charge Pending Following Victim's Death

The teenagers were initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon while Manning was still alive.

Following Manning's death on October 24, authorities are pursuing a murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting, according to the case information.

Townsend remains in custody as the investigation continues.

The existing aggravated assault charges are accusations, and both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
