On January 30, 2025, Irving police officers executed an arrest warrant at a residence in the 1800 block of Leann Lane, near W. Pioneer Drive in West Irving. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Laquida Shrurell Smith of Irving, was taken into custody for an aggravated robbery that occurred on November 17, 2024.
According to investigators, Smith and an unidentified suspect arrived separately at the Studio 6 Motel in the 3900 block of W. Airport Freeway (SH-183) during the early morning hours of November 17. Irving police received a 911 call reporting an assault, and officers arrived to find a 36-year-old black female victim with visible injuries. The victim reported that two suspects had assaulted her before stealing her gray 2017 Ford Fusion, along with her purse, iPhone, cash, and apartment keys. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Detectives identified Smith as one of the suspects and obtained a warrant for her arrest. In addition to the aggravated robbery charge, Smith had multiple outstanding warrants, including three for speeding in Irving, one from the Euless Police Department, and a failure to appear warrant in Tarrant County.
Irving police have not disclosed whether the victim knew the suspects, citing the ongoing investigation.
