Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has announced reduced weekend rail service in the city's Central Business District during the first two weekends of May. Passengers using DART Rail during May 3-6 and May 10-13 may encounter delays as maintenance is carried out on the rail system's high-voltage power source, known as the catenary, through a process called "re-tensioning."
The repair work will occur over consecutive weekends in 54-hour shifts, allowing one track to remain open between 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3, and 3 a.m. on Monday, May 6, as well as from Friday, May 10, until Monday, May 13. During this time, DART will operate a single train in both directions, serving all stations between Pearl/Arts District and West End.
To accommodate passengers during the maintenance period, three shuttle bus routes will replace the affected rail lines at various stations. The shuttle services will operate from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Fridays, and from 3 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays during the affected weekends. Normal rail service is expected to resume at 3 a.m. on Monday mornings, though closures could be postponed to alternate weekends due to weather conditions.
The Red/Blue Bus Shuttle will run between Cityplace/Uptown, Pearl/Arts District, West End, EBJ Union, and back, with rail service resuming at EBJ Union. The Green Bus Shuttle will operate between Deep Ellum, Pearl/Arts District, West End, Victory, and back, with rail service resuming at Victory. Lastly, the Orange Bus Shuttle will travel between Cityplace/Uptown, Pearl/Arts District, West End, Victory, and back, with rail service resuming at Victory.
