Explosion Rocks Performance Show Horse Facility, Leaves Three Injured in Pilot Point

On Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at 12:22 PM, the Pilot Point Fire Department responded to an explosion in the 8000 block of East FM 455. Upon arrival, emergency units discovered a building severely damaged by what appeared to be a powerful explosion.

Three individuals were found at the scene, suffering from various degrees of burns. To assist with patient care and transportation to nearby Burn/Trauma Centers, Mutual Aid units from Aubrey, Sanger, and Denton Fire Departments were summoned. However, due to adverse weather conditions, Air Medical support was unavailable.

The affected property operates as a Performance Show Horse facility, where horses are trained and boarded. The barn involved in the explosion is utilized for housing some of these horses.

The Denton County Fire Marshal’s Office has been tasked with investigating the cause of the explosion. While the exact cause remains undetermined, one possibility under consideration is a lightning strike.
