Birdville High School Appoints New Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator

At the regular Board meeting on March 28, the Birdville ISD board of trustees announced the appointment of Chris Smith as the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Birdville High School.

Smith, who brings a wealth of player and coaching experience, played football at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he excelled as an offensive lineman and deep snapper. He was recognized as a two-year letterman and Academic All-Conference for the Southland Football League during his collegiate career.

His coaching journey includes significant roles such as associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach at renowned institutions such as Southlake Carroll High School and Carthage High School. Smith also contributed to the football program at Texas A&M University, where he served as offensive quality control and offensive line coach.

Barry Norton, Executive Director of Athletics, expressed admiration for Smith's extensive experience, particularly highlighting his tenure as the offensive coordinator at Southlake Carroll and Carthage, two highly successful football programs in the state. Norton emphasized the value of Smith's multifaceted experience across various levels of competition, from Texas High School Football's highest tier (6A) to lower levels (4A), as well as his time spent on the coaching staff at Texas A&M University.

Superintendent Dr. Gayle Stinson commended Smith's championship experience at both high school and collegiate levels, noting his infectious energy and enthusiasm. Dr. Stinson also praised Smith's emphasis on character development, underscoring his commitment to nurturing young athletes into outstanding citizens.

Smith holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University.
