Irving Man Indicted on Rape Charges

An Irving Man has been indicted on a rape charge.   On September 3, 2023, Irving Police Officers arrested Jose Joel Espino-Rivas after an investigation into sexual assault.  

The victim contacted police after a night of suffering at the hands of Espino-Rivas.   At the time Espino-Rivas was residing in an apartment complex at the 2000 block of Carl Road.    

The victim said that at around 11:00 pm on September 2nd, Espino-Rivas sexually assaulted her repeatedly by holding her at knife point.  As she tried to fight him off, Espino-Rivas used his fist to hit her, causing significant injury.   The victim was held captive throughout the night.

The following day at approximately 1:21 pm, the victim dialed 911 and four Irving police officers arrived on-scene.  After interviewing both victim and suspect, Espino-Rivas was taken into custody.  He was charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault and Unlawful Restraint.   Additionally, Immigration authorities requested an ICE hold on him for residing in the country illegally without proper documentation.

Espino-Rivas remains incarcerated in the Dallas County Jail.  

According to Dallas County records, Espino-Rivas was indicted on January 24, 2024.  His trial is scheduled to begin May 13, 2024.
