Construction Progresses on New Central Fire Station in Downtown Irving

Construction of the new Central Fire Station in downtown Irving is well underway and is expected to open its doors to the public in mid-2024. The project remains on schedule, showcasing significant progress in various aspects of the building's development.

Construction crews have successfully erected structural steel beams, poured concrete for the driveway, and laid masonry stones on the exterior façade. Additionally, work has commenced on the essential electrical and plumbing infrastructure of the structure.

The Irving Fire Department is set to honor the heritage of the Irving Heritage District by integrating salvaged bricks from the previous fire station into a section of the new building's exterior. Plans also include the exploration of options for an outdoor wall mural and the placement of interior wall displays featuring photographs of the former station.

The new Central Fire Station will be a two-story facility designed with practicality in mind. Living quarters will be situated on the ground level, while sleeping quarters will be located upstairs. To enhance emergency response capabilities, the station will be equipped with fire poles for swift access to emergency vehicles from the upper level. The station will be staffed by a crew of four firefighters and will house a fire engine to ensure prompt and efficient response to emergencies in the downtown area.
