Arlington has once again been recognized as one of the top National Night Out communities in the country. The National Association of Town Watch announced that the city earned second place in the 2025 National Night Out Awards for large cities, marking Arlington’s 11th straight year finishing in the Top 3. The city has taken first place multiple times, including 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024.

This year, more than 210 neighborhoods, businesses and community groups hosted National Night Out gatherings across Arlington. The event is designed to strengthen relationships between residents, first responders, and city staff through simple neighborhood interaction, from cookouts and block parties to meet-and-greets with police officers and firefighters.

Police Chief Al Jones said the event continues to be one of Arlington’s most meaningful community traditions. He noted that the strength of these partnerships plays a key role in building trust and keeping the city safe. “Fighting crime here in Arlington is not just about the police department,” he said. “It’s about the community as a whole.”

The National Night Out Awards consider factors such as community participation, event organization and the level of engagement between residents and law enforcement.

For cities with populations over 300,000, the 2025 rankings are:

  1. Orlando, FL

  2. Arlington, TX

  3. Chesterfield County, VA

  4. Columbus, OH

  5. Minneapolis, MN

  6. Louisville-Jefferson County, KY
