Teen Driver Arrested After 100-Mph Stop Leads To Drug And AK-Style Weapon Discovery In Irving

Yandel Emilio Dominguez

IRVING, Texas - An early-morning traffic stop for excessive speed in East Irving led to the arrest of a teenage driver and the discovery of a firearm and a large quantity of THC products, police said.

According to the Irving Police Department, an officer was patrolling around 12:10 a.m. Jan. 18 near eastbound SH-183 and Spur 482 when he observed a red Chevrolet Camaro traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving across all three lanes of traffic. Police said the vehicle exceeded 100 mph as the officer attempted to catch up.

After stopping the vehicle, the officer identified the driver as 17-year-old Yandel Emilio Dominguez. While speaking with Dominguez, the officer observed an AK-style pistol in plain view on the rear seat. All three occupants were removed from the vehicle and detained.

During the initial contact, the officer also noticed a box for a THC vape pen in plain view inside the driver’s door pocket. Additional THC vape pens were visible on the front passenger floorboard and rear seat. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted.

Police said the search uncovered a THC vape pen in the center console, three more in the glovebox, and two boxes in the trunk containing 26 and eight THC vape pens. Officers also located a package containing 3.5 grams of marijuana, a marijuana blunt, and two additional THC vape pens. In total, investigators recovered approximately 72.5 grams of THC and 4.5 grams of marijuana from various areas of the vehicle, an amount police said exceeded what would be considered for personal use. Officers also found $714 in mixed denominations in the driver’s door pocket.

Dominguez was booked into the Irving Jail and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 and possession of marijuana.

One of the passengers, identified as 18-year-old Yandel Rodriguez, was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2.
