BEDFORD, Texas - A two-alarm fire tore through an apartment building in Bedford Thursday afternoon, displacing residents from a dozen units but leaving no injuries reported, according to fire officials.
The Bedford Fire Department was dispatched just after 2 p.m. to reports of a possible structure fire at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Oak Creek Lane. Squad 15 was first on scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a large apartment building.
Truck 154 arrived moments later and crews immediately went on the offensive, beginning fire suppression efforts and rescuing multiple pets from inside the building. As conditions intensified, a second alarm was called, bringing in additional firefighters and equipment from Grapevine, Hurst, Euless, Colleyville, and Southlake.
Fire officials said the blaze was contained to a single building and brought under control relatively quickly. Twelve apartment units were damaged, forcing residents from their homes. The Red Cross was contacted to assist displaced tenants.
During firefighting operations, crews encountered several partial roof collapses, but no residents, firefighters, or pets were reported injured.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released, and investigators are continuing to examine the scene
