An Irving police officer arrested 31-year-old Jorge Barrera of Dallas after a late-night pursuit that ended in his capture and the discovery of methamphetamine and cocaine inside his vehicle.
The incident occurred on October 26 around 10:27 p.m., when an officer on patrol near East State Highway 183 and North Britain Road spotted a silver Cadillac matching a previous Flock camera alert tied to a tool theft investigation. The officer followed the vehicle, pacing it at 73 mph in a 70 mph zone, and attempted a traffic stop using lights and sirens.
Instead of stopping, Barrera fled, leading officers on a chase for several miles before his vehicle became disabled. Barrera then ran from the scene, jumping a barbed-wire fence and crossing a field before officers caught and arrested him.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a clear bag containing 25.9 grams of methamphetamine between the seat and console, along with a magnetized box under the driver’s seat holding four smaller baggies of cocaine totaling 0.9 grams. The box also contained several empty baggies consistent with narcotics distribution. Field tests confirmed the substances as methamphetamine and cocaine.
Barrera was charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1) for both the methamphetamine (4–200 grams) and cocaine (under 1 gram), as well as Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and Evading Arrest on Foot.
A records check revealed Barrera was already out on bond from a previous Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge in Dallas County. He had posted a $175,000 bond in November 2024 and was required to wear an ankle monitor. In September 2025, his GPS device registered a tamper alert indicating it had been removed, leading to a warrant for insufficient bond.
Barrera’s bond for the new charges was set at $35,000. He remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail under a hold related to the prior case.
