Elderly Man in Parker County Found Safe Thanks to Social Media Alert

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office released an alert regarding a missing elderly man with medical issues, who was located by using social media.

The 85-year-old man was last seen Wednesday around 11 a.m., traveling by foot on FM 51 North. He was headed to Dollar General but did not return home. Once reported to the sheriff’s office, a public alert was released and deputies began canvassing the area.

The man was reported as having a heart condition with a diminished mental capacity.

Within minutes, Parker County Hospital District Paramedic Supervisor Drew Clinkscales read the alert. Clinkscales was on duty, returning to the station from a dinner break. He remembered seeing a man matching the description of the missing gentleman standing on the side of Santa Fe Drive moments earlier.

“I didn’t think much about it when I first saw him because he didn’t seem to be in distress,” Clinkscales said, “But after pulling into the station, I saw the post then went back to his location.”

Clinkscales said the man walked several additional blocks from where he first saw him. Clinkscales added the photo and physical description provided enough detail that he was able to recognize him instantly. He called an ambulance to the scene for paramedics to medically assess the missing man, who was found to be confused but otherwise in good health. The man was reunited with family members, who also arrived on the scene.

“It is estimated that the missing man walked more than eight miles from his home before he was located,” Clinkscales confirmed.

Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said social media is often used as a tool by law enforcement to aid in emergency situations.

“We are grateful the missing man was located quickly and for Drew’s vigilance which led to his safe return,” said Sheriff Authier.
