Fort Worth Launches R3 Program to Support Mental Health of First Responders and Veterans

The Fort Worth sky shone brightly to celebrate the launch of the R3 Program, a collaborative effort aimed at addressing moral injury. Spearheaded by the City of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Police & Fire Departments, and the American Warrior Association (AWA), this initiative marks a significant step towards supporting the mental health and wellness of those serving in high-risk professions.

The R3 Program recognizes the toll that prolonged stress and exposure to trauma can take on individuals and their families. By providing specialized support and resources, it aims to combat issues such as chemical addiction, mental illness, and the alarming rates of suicide among military personnel, veterans, and first responders.

What sets the R3 Program apart is its emphasis on unity across different sectors, bringing together fire, police, and EMS departments to work collaboratively towards wellness. Through this joint effort, participants are not just receiving individualized care but are also part of a larger community committed to their ongoing support and service.

With statistics showing an average of 22 military and veteran suicides daily and 150 peace officers taking their own lives each year, initiatives like the R3 Program are vital in addressing the mental health challenges faced by those in demanding professions. By prioritizing wellness and providing tailored programs, the R3 Program aims to equip individuals with the tools they need to continue serving their communities effectively.
