Teen Suspect Apprehended After Police Pursuit in Plano, Multiple Police Departments Involved

In the early hours of Thursday, March 29, 2024, Plano Police Officer Smith spotted a stolen vehicle previously reported to the Dallas Police Department. Upon attempting a traffic stop, the driver, identified as 17-year-old Edwin Martinez, refused to comply and fled, abandoning the vehicle in Garland before escaping on foot.

Plano K-9 Officer Seed, Officer Sadler, and Officer Faiz, along with support from Garland and Richardson Police Departments, responded to the scene. Gunfire was heard from a nearby wooded area, prompting officers to take cover. With assistance from the Texas DPS101 helicopter, Martinez was located hiding in the tree line.

Under the leadership of Plano Patrol Sergeant Thompkins, Martinez was successfully apprehended. Further investigation revealed the involvement of a juvenile suspect who was subsequently detained.

The Plano Police Department extended their gratitude to the Richardson and Garland Police Departments, as well as DPS101 personnel, for their support. This incident underscores the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers in ensuring community safety.

Martinez faces charges of Evading Arrest or Detention using a Vehicle.
