FORT WORTH, Texas - A group of Fort Worth police officers recently brightened the day of a young girl battling cancer after learning of her longtime dream of becoming a police officer.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, a retired officer contacted the department's Fort Worth Cops for Kids program to share the story of his neighbor, 7-year-old Emma.
Emma has dreamed of becoming a police officer since she was 3 years old. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia.
Wanting to support her during her fight, Officers Oleksy, Castro, Espinoza, St. Clair, and Bel Haddad visited Emma in the hospital along with K-9 Echo from the department's Critical Incident Response Team.
The officers brought Emma a police-themed Build-A-Bear and spent time with her during the visit.
Police said Emma was initially shy, but her demeanor quickly changed when she met K-9 Echo. The dog rested her head on Emma's hospital bed, helping comfort the young patient and bringing a smile to her face.
According to the department, Emma's parents said they had not seen her smile like that in weeks and described the visit as a meaningful moment for the entire family.
The Fort Worth Police Department shared a message of encouragement for the young cancer fighter, expressing support for "future Officer Emma" as she continues her treatment journey.
The visit was organized through Fort Worth Cops for Kids, a program dedicated to helping children and families throughout the community.
