DALLAS, TX — A 61-year-old man will spend the next three decades in state prison without the possibility of parole after a Dallas County jury found him guilty of sexually abusing a toddler more than a decade ago.
Following a trial in the State of Texas vs. Julio Alberto Membreno, a jury returned a swift guilty verdict on April 10, 2026, for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 14. The same jury subsequently sentenced Membreno to 30 years of day-for-day confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
Overcoming a Ten-Year Delay
The prosecution successfully secured a conviction despite a complex, 10-year delay in the victim’s outcry. Evidence presented during the trial established that Membreno committed multiple, continuous acts of sexual abuse against the victim, who was just four years old when the assaults began.
The initial criminal probe was handled by the Dallas Police Department, whose detectives gathered the foundational evidence necessary to reconstruct the timeline of the historical abuse.
The Courtroom Prosecution Team
Because Texas law treats continuous child abuse with maximum severity, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office deployed a comprehensive legal and support team to secure the conviction and protect the young survivor during testimony:
-
Lead Prosecutor: Delayna Griffin
-
Second Chair: Amanda Boylan
-
Appellate Support: Christopher Cundiff
-
DA Investigator: Laura Brakefield
-
DA Victim Advocate: Flor de la Fuente
Strict Texas Sentencing Guidelines
Under the Texas Penal Code, convictions for the continuous sexual abuse of a young child carry a strict, non-parole mandate. Membreno is legally barred from accruing good-conduct time or early-release credits, ensuring that the 61-year-old defendant must serve the entirety of his 30-year sentence day-for-day behind bars.
