Mother and Toddler Severely Injured After Falling Into Burn Pit Near Waxahachie

Waxahachie, TX  – The Ellis County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a tragic burn incident that occurred on the evening of Thursday, November 6, 2025, in a rural area of the county near Waxahachie.

According to officials, the incident involved a 2-year-old boy who fell into a burn pit, sustaining severe burn injuries. During the rescue effort, the child’s mother also suffered significant burns while pulling her son to safety.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and both victims were transported to a specialized burn unit for advanced medical care. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.

The Ellis County Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine contributing factors and ensure proper safety measures are in place to prevent future accidents.

Ellis County Fire Marshal Tim Birdwell stated,

“This is a heartbreaking situation, and our thoughts are with the family as they recover. Our office, along with other local authorities, is working to fully understand what led to this tragic event.”
