The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) reported the death of 31-year-old inmate Mason Andrew Yancy, of Arlington, following a medical emergency on December 27, 2024. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by JPS Medical staff and Detention Officers at the jail, Yancy was pronounced dead at 10:36 p.m.
Yancy was initially arrested by the Grapevine Police Department on December 23 for possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. While in Grapevine's custody, he was seen by medical staff and medically cleared before being booked into the Grapevine Jail and transferred to Tarrant County custody on Christmas Eve.
During the Tarrant County intake process, Yancy disclosed significant medical issues, prompting a scheduled medical and mental health evaluation along with a detox protocol, according to TCSO.
On the night of December 27, Yancy suffered a medical emergency. Despite extensive efforts by medical staff, he did not survive.
TCSO confirmed that all in-custody deaths undergo thorough review and investigation by multiple entities, including the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office jail staff, the Criminal Investigations Division, an outside law enforcement agency, JPS Medical Staff, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
