On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in the early afternoon, the Ennis Police Department responded to a call from a Tractor Supply employee reporting that four men had stolen three generators and fled the store. The employee provided a description of the vehicle involved, a black minivan, along with a partial license plate number.
The Ennis Police Department Communications Division informed officers that the suspect vehicle was traveling northbound on the service road of IH-45. An officer in the district quickly located the minivan, and other officers responded to the area. Upon initiating a traffic stop, two of the four suspects fled on foot, while the officer detained the two remaining suspects and located the stolen generators in the vehicle.
Additional officers from the Ennis Police Department arrived on the scene and established a perimeter to contain the fleeing suspects. A drone officer from the Ennis Police Department provided assistance, while an Ellis County K-9 officer and a Palmer Police officer, who heard the radio traffic, also arrived to support the operation.
The two suspects who fled were captured without further incident. All four suspects were arrested and charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. The two who attempted to flee were additionally charged with Evading Arrest Detention.
