On the night of Tuesday, July 9th, Boyd Schools in Wise County experienced an unexpected break-in. The intruder took several items from the school without permission.
Early on the morning of July 10th, a vigilant Boyd patrol officer noticed a suspicious individual riding a bicycle around town. The officer, who had reviewed video footage of the school burglary, recognized the suspect by his distinctive shoes and the same bicycle used during the crime. The suspect was taken into custody. A background check revealed that he had an outstanding warrant for a previous offense. The suspect was identified as Calvin Lee Cooper of Boyd.
A subsequent search of the Cooper's residence led to the recovery of most of the stolen school property. Additionally, officers discovered a large stash of narcotics and other stolen goods, believed to belong to a local drug dealer, Tommy Allen Grifford.
Both Cooper and Grifford have been detained at the Wise County Jail. Cooper's bond was set at $10,000 and Grifford's at $8,500..
