On the evening of December 30, 2023, Colleyville firefighters responded to a house fire on Ballantrae Drive. The emergency call prompted an immediate dispatch, with some crews reporting a visible column of smoke as they left their stations.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a challenging situation at the single-story home. The blaze, which had extended into the attic, caused the roof to sag under the intensity of the flames.
The fire crews executed a transitional attack to gain control of the situation. A transitional attack in firefighting is a strategy where firefighters initially apply water from the exterior of a structure before fully committing to an interior attack. This approach is often used when conditions inside the building are too hazardous or when there's a need to knock down the bulk of the fire from a safer vantage point.
Collaborative efforts from Bedford, Euless, Grapevine, Haltom City, North Richland Hills, and Watauga fire departments were crucial in managing the fire and preventing further escalation. The combined force of multiple departments allowed for a rapid and coordinated response.
Despite the firefighters' quick and efficient actions, the family's residence sustained heavy damage.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
