New Highway 360 and I-30 Interchange Set to Open, Concluding 7-Year Construction

After seven years of construction, the newly revamped interchange connecting Texas 360 and Interstate 30 is set to open to traffic in all directions on Thursday. The completion marks the final phase of the extensive project that commenced in 2016.

During the course of the construction, several ramps facilitating movement between Texas 360 and Interstate 30 were gradually opened. However, the highlight of Thursday's unveiling is the inauguration of the last segment—a new ramp linking northbound Texas 360 with both east and westbound lanes of Interstate 30.

The overhaul of the interchange is a significant upgrade from the previous structure, which dates back to the 1950s. Originally built when Interstate 30 operated as a turnpike, the outdated design required motorists to navigate through a cloverleaf and toll booths when entering or exiting the highway.

Once the tolls for the turnpike were paid off, Interstate 30 transitioned into a toll-free highway. However, drivers moving between Interstate 30 and Texas 360 still had to navigate through the antiquated cloverleaf. This involved traversing stoplights and frontage roads to access the onramp for either Interstate 30 or Texas 360.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) stated that the new interchange has "transformed the original cloverleaf design into a modern, fully-directional interchange with connection ramps for all movements between I-30 and SH 360." The updated design aligns more closely with contemporary large interchanges seen across North Texas, resembling structures like the High Five.

Officials are urging motorists to exercise caution as the project reaches its completion, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness during the initial days of the new interchange's operation.
