Charges have been filed against 26-year-old Louis Lamar Simpson Jr. of San Marcos in connection with the murder of his mother and grandmother, 53-year-old Tina McGruder and 75-year-old Deanne McGruder, on Friday, December 8, 2023, at their residence on Basalt Drive.
On December 8, 2023, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at approximately 1:34 p.m. in the 2300 block of Basalt Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a "nervous" male leaving the residence and heard distressing sounds from inside. The male, identified as Simpson Jr., was detained, and officers discovered two females inside with gunshot wounds.
According to the arrest affidavit, Tina McGruder called police, saying her son had threatened and hit her and her mother. She informed police that Simpson had guns in the house.
An Officer asked Tina McGruder who shot her and she was able to say, "Son". During an interview with investigators, Simpson Jr said that his mother had put him in jail before and according to him, that "was the worst mistake she could have made".
Simpson Jr. has a prior record, having been arrested on July 30, 2021, by Killeen Police Officers for assaulting a family member.
Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit have acted on a complaint from the Bell County District Attorney's Office, charging Simpson Jr. with Capital Murder. Arraigned by Judge Cliff Coleman, Simpson Jr.'s bond has been set at $3,000,000, and he is currently in custody at the Bell County Jail.
