City of Fort Worth Expands Support for Veterans and Small Business Owners

The City of Fort Worth is bolstering its commitment to assist veterans and their families through essential programs focused on emergency financial relief and housing repairs. These initiatives, managed by the City’s Neighborhood Services Department Community Action Partners, are crucial in preventing homelessness and ensuring access to safe and healthy homes for veterans.

Funded by grants from the Texas Veterans Commission, these programs work in tandem with various offerings throughout Tarrant County. Some notable programs include the Forward Home Veteran Assistance Grant, Healthy Homes for Heroes Grant, CLC Inc's COIN and HARTH initiatives, Endeavors Fort Worth - Veteran Supportive Services, and support services from the Fort Worth Vet Center.

In a significant move, the City of Fort Worth is set to appoint a veteran affairs coordinator, whose role will involve collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain a comprehensive veterans program. This initiative aims to address the unique needs and challenges faced by military veterans in the Fort Worth community.

Furthermore, the City is exploring the feasibility of implementing a small-business program specifically designed for U.S. military veterans. This program will extend support to two additional categories: Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). The goal is to promote, track, and report full and equal opportunities for VOSBs and SDVOSBs in city contracting.

To kickstart this endeavor, the City plans to engage an external consultant to conduct an availability and utilization analysis (AUA) of existing VOSBs and SDVOSBs.
