In a tribute to the dedication and hard work of Texas educators, iconic buildings across the state are set to illuminate in blue on October 5, in celebration of World Teachers’ Day. From the towering Reunion Tower in Dallas to various buildings within the Texas A&M University system and city halls scattered throughout the state, 37 prominent structures will be bathed in blue light, symbolizing gratitude and appreciation for teachers.
Mayors and city councils, recognizing the vital role teachers play in shaping future generations, are issuing proclamations, while school boards are passing resolutions in honor of the occasion. Universities are actively participating by displaying #TeachersCan ribbons and lighting up their buildings in blue. The #TeachersCan movement is not only an acknowledgment of the more than 350,000 dedicated educators across Texas but also a reminder of the essential role teachers play in the state's future prosperity.
Support for this initiative is widespread, with 159 mayoral proclamations being issued, including one from Irving, TX. Eleven universities have joined the cause, highlighting the critical nature of the teaching profession and the impact teachers have on the success of Texas. To further express appreciation for teachers, community members are encouraged to participate in the #TeachersCanTuesday campaign by nominating their favorite educators for spotlights at TeachersCan.org. Local businesses are also urged to show their support by illuminating their buildings in blue starting at 5 p.m. on October 5th.
The color blue, chosen for its significance in the world of education, represents a degree in this field. It stands as a testament to the dedication of educators who tirelessly guide and inspire students. The #TeachersCan initiative is bolstered by the support of more than 150 Texas companies, including well-known names like H-E-B, Whataburger, Kendra Scott, Valero, the Houston Texans, and the San Antonio Spurs. Statewide associations, community groups, chambers of commerce, and universities are also standing in solidarity with the cause.
World Teachers’ Day provides a unique opportunity to recognize the teaching profession's achievements and amplify the voices of teachers, who are at the core of efforts to ensure education leaves no one behind.
