Grapevine, Texas - A driver was killed early Thursday morning after a vehicle left the roadway on State Highway 121 near its interchange with Highway 635 in Grapevine, authorities said. Grapevine police and fire crews responded to the scene around 6 a.m. following reports of a serious single-vehicle crash.
Investigators said the vehicle drifted into the grassy median separating the northbound and southbound lanes before striking a guardrail. It then traveled roughly 35 feet down an embankment, coming to rest near nearby railroad tracks.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Crews shut down portions of the main lanes of SH 121 for several hours while they cleared the wreckage, but traffic has since returned to normal. Grapevine police continue to investigate what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
