Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas - A manhunt for a murder suspect wanted out of Plano ended in a deadly, fiery crash early Tuesday after the fugitive allegedly opened fire on a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, authorities said.
Investigators say the trooper tried to pull the suspect over around 10 a.m. when the driver allegedly fired shots at the officer and sped off, triggering a multi-agency chase. The pursuit stretched northbound along Interstate 35 as law enforcement from several departments worked together to stop the vehicle.
The chase ended when the suspect lost control of the car, crashing and causing the vehicle to burst into flames. Officers and troopers moved in to secure the burning wreck and later confirmed the driver had died at the scene.
The crash also sparked a grass fire near the roadway. The shooting, pursuit and crash remain under investigation as authorities continue piecing together what led up to the deadly chain of events.
