Allen, Texas - A child custody exchange ended in gunfire Friday evening at a Starbucks along State Highway 121 in Allen, leaving one man dead and another facing charges. Allen police were called to the coffee shop near the busy SH-121 corridor just before 6 p.m. on September 18 after reports of shots fired.
Investigators say the confrontation broke out between the father of the children and the mother's boyfriend as the two men met to hand off the kids. The dispute escalated into a physical fight in which both men were shot.
Paramedics rushed both men to a nearby hospital. The mother's boyfriend later died from his injuries; authorities are withholding his name until relatives are notified. The father, identified by police as the suspected shooter, was taken into custody at the scene without further incident and remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound that is not considered life-threatening.
Police said the children who witnessed the exchange were not physically harmed. The shooting remains under active investigation, and Allen police have not released additional details on possible charges.
