IRVING, Texas - A 17-year-old driver faces a first-degree felony drug charge after an Irving police officer stopped him for reckless driving and reported finding a large amount of THC inside his vehicle.
The traffic stop occurred Saturday night, Sept. 19, after an Irving Police Department officer on patrol observed a vehicle being driven recklessly on city streets.
According to police, the officer followed the vehicle for a period of time and continued observing the driver's behavior before activating the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and siren.
The driver stopped and was identified as Landon Noel Orellana-Reyna, 17.
During the encounter, the officer reported that Orellana-Reyna was behaving suspiciously. Police said the officer developed probable cause to search the vehicle and discovered narcotics, including what was described as a large quantity of THC.
Investigators said the amount of THC and the manner in which it was packaged led police to believe it was intended for distribution.
Orellana-Reyna was arrested and booked into the Irving Jail. He was charged with misdemeanor reckless driving and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 or 2-A, a first-degree felony.
The cases were submitted to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
Orellana-Reyna has since posted bond and been released from custody.
The charges are accusations, and Orellana-Reyna is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
