Woman Found Dead Inside North Richland Hills Storage Unit

Nancy Carpenter (R.I.P.)

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old woman who was found unresponsive early Thursday inside a storage unit where authorities said she had been living.

North Richland Hills emergency dispatchers received a call around 3:58 a.m. Sept. 17 from Extra Space Storage in the 3800 block of Rufe Snow Drive, near Boulevard 26.

The woman was identified as Nancy Kay Carpenter, 46.

North Richland Hills Police said a death investigation is underway, but investigators have found no evidence of foul play. Based on the preliminary investigation, her death appears to be medical in nature.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet released Carpenter's official cause or manner of death.

Carpenter had been dealing with a pending criminal case in Wise County. She was arrested March 22, 2026, on charges of manufacture or delivery of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance between 4 and 200 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She spent nearly a month in jail before posting $25,000 bond and being released April 19th. The case remained pending at the time of her death, and she had not been convicted on those charges.

Following her release, Carpenter had sought assistance and stayed at Anew Vision Transitional Living in Fort Worth, a program that provides transitional support for people working toward recovery.
