Grand Prairie Crews Recover Body of Man Who Drowned at Joe Pool Lake

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - A 36-year-old man drowned at Joe Pool Lake after disappearing beneath the water's surface while swimming near a boat Saturday evening, Grand Prairie fire officials said. The Grand Prairie Fire Department was called to the lake around 5:15 p.m. on August 15 after a witness said the man had gone under while swimming and never came back up. Officials noted he was not wearing a life jacket at the time. Members of the Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team searched the water Saturday night until darkness halted the effort, then returned Sunday morning and located the man's body. His name is expected to be released once the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office completes its identification process. The death marks the third drowning reported at Joe Pool Lake this summer. With the lake still drawing swimmers and boaters, Grand Prairie fire officials are urging anyone in or near the water to wear a life vest or other approved flotation device.
