A child has died after an accidental shooting Saturday evening at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Revolutionary Way in Fort Worth. Fire crews and police officers responded to the scene around 7:45 p.m. after reports of a shooting involving a young child.
Paramedics provided emergency medical care to the girl, who had suffered a gunshot wound, before rushing her to a nearby hospital. She was later pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the child found and accessed an unsecured firearm inside the residence, which discharged and struck her. Detectives with the Fort Worth Police Department continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to formally identify the victim and determine the official cause of death.
