Man Arrested at Las Colinas Hotel on Solicitation of Prostitution Charge, Irving Police Say
IRVING, Texas - A 38-year-old man was arrested at a Las Colinas hotel after Irving police investigated a disturbance call that led officers to an alleged prostitution arrangement arranged through text messages.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, to the Staybridge Suites in the 1200 block of Executive Circle after receiving a report of a disturbance.
Call notes indicated several men had been seen entering and leaving one of the hotel rooms and that a woman could be heard screaming inside.
When officers arrived, they contacted a woman inside the room who spoke only Mandarin. Police used a translation application to communicate with her. After explaining the reason for the visit, the woman gave officers verbal consent to enter the room to ensure everyone inside was safe.
During the welfare check, officers found 38-year-old Saptarshi Das hiding in the bathroom while wearing only a towel.
According to the arrest report, Das initially told officers he had met the woman earlier that day and had gone to the hotel to spend time with her. Investigators said he later admitted he had met her through an online website known as "Bad Page," which police described as a platform commonly used to arrange commercial sex acts.
The investigation determined that Das allegedly initiated a text conversation with the woman and agreed to pay $200 in exchange for sexual acts for one hour. Police said he had already sent $100 as a deposit before officers arrived at the hotel.
With the woman's consent, investigators reviewed her cellphone and documented text message exchanges that they said corroborated the agreement.
Police said the woman has not been identified because the investigation involving her remains ongoing.
Das was arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitution. He has since been released after posting bond.
The charge is an allegation, and Das is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
