IRVING, Texas. A 29-year-old Irving man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted his father during a domestic disturbance and later threatened to kill an officer while being taken into custody.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded Sunday, July 12, to a domestic disturbance in progress at a home in the 1900 block of Puritan Drive in the Plymouth Park area.
Police said the suspect's mother called for help, reporting that her adult son, identified as 29-year-old Cristobal Canizalez, had been drinking and they needed help.
According to the police report, Canizalez's father attempted to stop him from leaving the home because he feared his son could be struck by a vehicle or attempt to drive while intoxicated.
Investigators allege Canizalez became physically combative and assaulted his 58-year-old father, causing bodily injury.
The victim was found with several painful red marks across his chest, back and left arm, according to the police report.
Canizalez was arrested on a charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Police said the encounter continued after the arrest. As officers attempted to place Canizalez into a marked patrol vehicle, he allegedly tensed his muscles, lowered his body weight and repeatedly refused to enter the patrol car.
According to the arrest report, Canizalez also repeatedly threatened to kill one of the arresting officers while yelling profanities and other vulgar remarks.
As a result of his actions during the arrest, Canizalez was additionally charged with obstruction/retaliation and resisting arrest.
