DALLAS COUNTY, Texas - A man died Wednesday morning after jumping from a bridge following a high-speed pursuit involving Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Ellis County Sheriff's Office deputies.
According to preliminary information, the pursuit began at approximately 7:15 a.m. on July 15 and ended near Loop 9 and Dowdy Ferris Road in far southern Dallas County.
Authorities said the suspect exited the vehicle and jumped from a bridge after the chase came to an end.
Law enforcement officers at the scene requested emergency medical assistance after reporting the man had sustained significant injuries.
The Lancaster Fire Department responded with multiple units and deployed a ladder truck in an attempt to reach the injured suspect below the bridge.
A CareFlite medical helicopter was also dispatched and landed nearby to transport the man to a hospital. However, responders determined he had died at the scene before he could be airlifted.
Officials believe the man died from injuries sustained in the fall, although the official cause and manner of death will be determined by the appropriate authorities.
The incident remains under investigation.
