IRVING, Texas. - A 25-year-old man was arrested after allegedly shoplifting more than $800 in merchandise from an Irving Walmart, fleeing from an off-duty police officer on foot, and leading officers on a brief vehicle pursuit before surrendering, according to the Irving Police Department.
The incident occurred July 6 at the Walmart located at 4100 West Airport Freeway.
According to police, loss prevention employees observed Khameron Philip Wilkerson concealing merchandise by placing store items into shopping bags as though they had already been purchased. Wilkerson then exited through the general merchandise doors without paying for the items.
An off-duty Mount Pleasant police officer working a security assignment at the store confronted Wilkerson outside and attempted to detain him. Police said Wilkerson resisted by pulling away from the officer and fled on foot through the parking lot.
The officer pursued Wilkerson until he entered a gray Nissan Altima and drove away, heading north through the parking lot before turning onto the eastbound State Highway 183 service road.
An arriving Irving police officer initiated a vehicle pursuit with emergency lights and siren activated.
After traveling approximately 0.8 miles, Wilkerson pulled into the parking lot of a Chevron gas station near the intersection of the SH 183 service road and Belt Line Road, where he surrendered without further incident.
Investigators determined Wilkerson had attempted to steal three items of merchandise valued at $842.90. Police said he discarded the stolen items after being confronted outside the store. All of the merchandise was recovered and returned to Walmart.
Wilkerson was booked into the Irving Jail at approximately 3:04 p.m.
He is charged with three counts of theft of property, resisting arrest, and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
Police also said Wilkerson had outstanding warrants from multiple agencies, including a theft warrant from the Colony Police Department, a misdemeanor warrant from the Arlington Police Department, and two warrants from the Red Oak Police Department for theft and failure to appear in court.
