Homeless Man Accused of Strangling Woman at Irving Motel, Then Robbing Her After She Fought Back

Brandyn Moore

IRVING, Texas — An Irving man is facing a first-degree felony charge after police say he assaulted and strangled a woman who had allowed him to stay in her motel room, then robbed her before fleeing the scene.

Irving Police officers responded at approximately 4:20 p.m. on June 13, 2026, to the Red Roof Inn & Suites in the 4100 block of West Airport Freeway after receiving a report of a stabbing and assault.

According to police, the 911 caller reported that a man was assaulting a woman who may have been stabbed.

When officers arrived, they found the victim covered in blood. She told investigators she had been assaulted by 38-year-old Brandyn Donterrel Moore.

The victim told police she did not know Moore prior to the incident but had allowed him to sleep inside her hotel room because he was homeless and had been sleeping on the ground outside her room.

According to the arrest affidavit, the woman later told Moore he needed to leave. Police say Moore became angry and attacked her.

During the assault, the victim reported Moore placed both hands around her neck and squeezed, causing her to lose consciousness. She told investigators she feared for her life during the attack.

Police said the victim was eventually able to defend herself by grabbing a glass bottle inside the room. She struck Moore in the head with the bottle and then used a shard of broken glass to stab him, allowing her to break free from the assault.

After the two separated, Moore allegedly stole $250 in cash from the room and fled the motel on an electric bicycle before continuing on foot.

A search for Moore led officers to the Home 2 Suites in the 4300 block of West Airport Freeway, where he was located with assistance from a Carrollton Police Department K-9 officer who happened to be at the location.

Moore was arrested and booked into the Irving Jail at approximately 9:26 p.m. that evening.

He was charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first-degree felony.

His bond was set at $150,000, but he remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail.

According to court records, Moore was already out on bond in another criminal case at the time of his arrest.

On May 26, 2026, Irving police arrested Moore on charges of Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespass after he damaged property and repeatedly attempted to enter locked doors and windows at the Lakeside Apartments on Valley View Lane. Police said he remained on the property after being directed to leave by apartment management.

Court records also show Moore was arrested on Dec. 19, 2025, and charged with Theft of Property with Previous Conviction. He served 21 days in county jail in that case.
