IRVING, Texas — A man that resides in Far North Dallas and who was already serving deferred probation for a theft conviction, was arrested after allegedly stealing merchandise from an Irving Home Depot and fleeing from police officers on foot.
Irving Police officers were dispatched on the morning of June 15, 2026, to The Home Depot at 3200 W. Irving Blvd. after receiving a report of a shoplifting in progress.
According to investigators, 54-year-old Chester Steven Dunn was observed by store loss prevention personnel concealing merchandise inside a backpack and leaving the store without paying for approximately $342.75 worth of items.
Police said Dunn exited the store and noticed marked police vehicles that had arrived in the parking lot. Despite verbal commands from uniformed officers to stop, Dunn abandoned the backpack near the store's exit and fled across the parking lot on foot.
Officers pursued Dunn for approximately one-eighth of a mile before taking him into custody.
A review of Dunn's criminal history revealed several recent convictions involving theft and evading arrest.
Court records show Dunn was convicted in Collin County in 2025 for Evading Arrest and served 30 days in county jail. He was also convicted in two separate Dallas County theft cases during 2025 and served jail sentences of 10 days and 30 days, respectively.
Investigators also discovered Dunn was on deferred adjudication probation stemming from a separate Dallas County theft case. In that incident, Dunn was caught stealing tools from a Walmart store. On Dec. 3, 2025, he accepted a plea agreement and was sentenced to two years of deferred adjudication probation.
Because of his prior criminal history, Dunn was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Previous Conviction and two counts of Theft of Property with Two or More Previous Convictions.
His bond was set at $75,000.
Jail records indicate Dunn remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail. The new charges will also impact his deferred adjudication probation from the December 2025 theft case.
The case remains pending.
