IRVING, Texas - An Irving man is facing a felony charge after police said he assaulted his 67-year-old grandmother during a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex Sunday afternoon.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded around 2:10 p.m. on May 17 to the La Ventana on Rochelle Apartments in the 1200 block of W. Rochelle Road near N. MacArthur Blvd.
Police said the woman told officers she had been praying in the living room while her grandson was showering. He then walked into the living room naked and became upset about her praying. He grabbed her arms, and shook her, causing pain and leaving her fearful that he would continue hurting her.
Investigators identified the suspect as 30-year-old Alejandro Barajas.
According to police, Barajas refused to answer officers’ questions about the incident. Officers determined there was probable cause for his arrest and booked him into the Irving Jail on a charge of Injury to an Elderly Person, a third-degree felony.
Police said Barajas also had seven open warrants, including five for public intoxication, one for possession of drug paraphernalia, and one for assault.
Authorities requested a protective order for the victim. Barajas remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail. His bond was set at $50,000, but records show that he is being held for violating probation tied to a prior conviction.
Believe it or not, Barajas accepted a plea agreement last week. That case was related to a 2024 incident in which he was accused of assaulting two Irving police officers by kicking one officer and punching another. On May 13th, he was sentenced to two years of deferred probation and community supervision in that case.
Court records also show that Barajas was arrested in April 2021 after officers found him inside a restroom at Irving Mall masturbating and refusing to leave. Officers said he was in possession of methamphetamine and under the influence of the drug at the time.
According to police, Barajas was later deemed mentally incompetent in 2022 in connection with that case. His competency was restored after treatment the following year, and the charges were subsequently dismissed.
