Johnson County Suspect Shot by Officers After Pursuit and Alleged Threats of Shootout

JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — A wanted suspect was shot by law enforcement officers Saturday after a vehicle pursuit ended in a crash and an armed confrontation, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said deputies received a BOLO alert on May 16, 2026, regarding Joseph Boy, who reportedly had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Investigators said information provided to law enforcement indicated Boy had allegedly threatened to engage in a shootout with officers rather than return to prison.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety later located Boy and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but authorities said he fled, leading officers on a pursuit.

Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase.

According to officials, the pursuit ended after officers used a PIT maneuver, causing the suspect vehicle to crash.

During attempts to take Boy into custody, authorities said he produced a firearm and was subsequently shot by law enforcement officers.

Boy was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office said his condition was unknown, though initial scanner traffic indicated he suffered life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Officials said the scene remains under investigation and, in accordance with standard procedure for officer-involved shootings involving sheriff’s office personnel, the case will be investigated by the Texas Rangers.
