DALLAS, Texas — A 17-year-old was fatally shot by officers after authorities said he pointed a rifle at police during a foot pursuit near a DART rail station in downtown Dallas.
According to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department, officers received a report at approximately 5:08 p.m. on May 10, 2026, about a male carrying a rifle at Victory Station.
Police said the suspect was described as wearing a blue puffer jacket and white pants. The report also indicated a female was seen with him.
Authorities confirmed the report at approximately 5:18 p.m. and attempted to contact the suspect. Investigators said the suspect fled onto the train tracks, prompting officers to pursue him.
During the chase, police said the suspect pointed the rifle toward officers.
According to investigators, officers fired shots, causing the suspect to take cover behind a platform near the tracks. Officers then gave repeated commands for him to drop the weapon, but police said those commands were ignored.
Authorities said officers fired additional rounds, striking the suspect.
The teen, later identified as 17-year-old Kristian Noel Burkley, was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the identity of the female seen with Burkley remains unknown.
