On July 5, 2023, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Dallas Police received a call requesting a welfare check at a residence located in the 1400 block of Peru Street. Officers promptly responded to the scene to investigate the matter.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Walter Smith, Jr., aged 50, inside the residence. An initial examination indicated that Smith had sustained a gunshot wound, leading investigators to conclude that he had been shot at some point during the previous night.
