WISE COUNTY, Texas — Authorities say skeletal remains discovered this week in Wise County may belong to a woman who has been missing since August 2025.
Investigators located the remains on Thursday near County Road 3225 and Cuba Road during a search conducted by forensic personnel and investigators with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.
Evidence recovered at the scene has tentatively identified the remains as Monica Rene Sanford, who was reported missing on August 25, 2025.
Officials said Sanford’s disappearance has been under investigation for months, with detectives continuing to actively work the case since she was first reported missing.
Chief Deputy Eric Debus said the discovery is heartbreaking but emphasized that investigators remain committed to finding answers about what happened.
Authorities confirmed the investigation into Sanford’s disappearance and death remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
