FORT WORTH, Texas — Firefighters contained a large structure fire early Friday morning, March 13th, that destroyed an outbuilding on the west side of Fort Worth but spared nearby homes and animals, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Just before 12:30 a.m., the Fort Worth Fire Department Alarm Office received multiple calls reporting a structure fire in the 9900 block of Richland Street near Old Highway 80 and Longvue.
While crews were en route, dispatchers received additional reports from neighbors who said they heard explosions and that horses were being evacuated from a barn at the property.
When firefighters arrived, they found a large outbuilding that included a garage, shop and barn fully engulfed in flames. Officials said the explosions reported by neighbors were caused by propane tanks and other flammable materials inside the structure.
Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and began an aggressive attack on the fire. Crews were able to contain the blaze to the outbuilding, preventing it from spreading to the nearby main residence.
Authorities said the horses were safely evacuated before the fire spread and no animals or people were injured.
After the flames were extinguished, firefighters worked to recover sentimental items from the building for the homeowners, including keepsakes and photo albums.
Arson investigators were called to the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
