IRVING, Texas - The City of Irving has received national recognition for its financial transparency, earning the Government Finance Officers Association’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the fifth consecutive year.
City officials announced the award was granted for Irving’s Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2024. The honor is presented by the Government Finance Officers Association and recognizes governments that effectively communicate financial information in a clear and accessible format for residents.
According to the association, reports are reviewed by an independent panel of judges and evaluated on criteria including reader appeal, understandability, creativity, distribution, and overall usefulness. Irving’s 2024 report met all program requirements and received ratings of good or excellent in the major evaluation categories. Judges noted the report’s success in making complex financial data informative and easy for the public to understand.
Eligibility for the award also requires recipients to earn GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Irving achieved that distinction for the same fiscal year.
The award is valid for one year and reflects the city’s ongoing emphasis on transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management. The Popular Annual Financial Report is intended to give residents a clear picture of how city funds are used to support services, infrastructure, and long-term planning initiatives.
