Woman Killed in Dallas Shooting; Suspect Dies in Officer-Involved Shooting in Mesquite

Dallas police are investigating a fatal shooting that led to a second deadly encounter involving officers later the same morning.

On December 20, 2025, at about 10:15 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 9000 block of Markville Drive in Lake Highlands. Officers found a female victim who had been shot. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported her to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Nadia Lanae Swanson.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., Northeast Division officers conducting surveillance located the suspect inside a vehicle near the 18500 block of LBJ Freeway near Towneast Mall in Mesquite. Officers initiated a felony traffic stop. During the encounter, the suspect exited the vehicle and shots were fired. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 32-year-old Gerald Frank Martin. No officers were injured.

The Dallas Police Department is documenting the investigation under case numbers 181463-2025 and 181467-2025. The officer-involved shooting in Mesquite is being investigated separately by the Mesquite Police Department under case number 25-110810.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight both responded to the scene and will conduct independent reviews as part of the investigative process.

Swanson was a mother of five children, aged 12, 9 (twins), 6 and 2.  A gofundme page has been setup to help support her children during this devastating incident.
