FORT WORTH, Texas — Education can transform lives, and for Skylar Yoder, it has shaped a remarkable family legacy. The daughter of longtime American Airlines Technical Crew Chief Jason Yoder, Skylar leveraged four scholarships from the American Airlines Education Foundation to earn an Ivy League degree from Cornell University, a master’s from King’s College London, and launch a career in global cybersecurity.
Skylar’s journey reflects a generational story of upward mobility. Her grandfather was an Amish wheat farmer with only an eighth-grade education, her father built a 36-year career at American Airlines, and now Skylar is continuing the family’s educational and professional achievements.
“Being awarded four Education Foundation scholarships was an important step in helping our family make higher education attainable,” said Jason Yoder. “It inspired Skylar to reach her full potential, pursuing her education and career across the globe.”
The Foundation annually awards scholarships to support students in higher education and vocational programs. In 2025, nearly $1 million was awarded to 364 students, including 90 first-generation college students. Scholarships are open to full-time students worldwide, with additional support for first-generation students.
“Our purpose is to care for people on life’s journey, helping team members and their families reach their full potential,” said Julie Rath, American Airlines Senior Vice President and Education Foundation board member. “We’re creating pathways not only to education, but opportunity across generations.”
