An 18-year-old Arlington resident, Destiny Michelle Cervantes, was arrested after allegedly ramming two civilian vehicles and an Irving Police patrol car during a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle on Tuesday, July 1st. Cervantes also faces drug possession charges.
At approximately 6:59 p.m., an Irving Police officer patrolling near Esters Blvd and Plaza Dr, on the north side of DFW Airport, located a recently stolen vehicle from Arlington. FLOCK cameras had observed the vehicle in the area less than an hour prior. The officer found the stolen vehicle parked at the Hawthorn Extended Stay hotel at 7825 Heathrow Dr (near SH-114).
While waiting for the Arlington Police Department's CAT team to arrive, the vehicle became mobile and left the hotel. When the Irving officer activated his lights, the vehicle failed to yield, initiating a pursuit.
During the chase toward Highway 114, the suspect intentionally rammed two civilian cars, causing an estimated $30,000 or more in damages. The pursuit continued until the suspect suddenly stopped on the service road and intentionally reversed at high speed, colliding with the marked patrol car. Despite the damage to the police vehicle, the Irving officer continued to follow until the suspect came to a complete stop and was taken into custody by responding officers.
The owner of the stolen vehicle reported that their keys and phone had also been taken by the suspect.
Upon being booked into the Irving Jail, Cervantes was found to be in possession of cocaine. She has been charged with Aggravated Assault on Public Servant, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1, Criminal Mischief causing between $30k to $150k in damage, and Evading Arrest Detention with a Vehicle.
Cervantes was transferred to the Dallas County Jail on July 2nd, where she remains on a $62,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing by both Irving Police and Arlington Police.
